Multiple Teams · What a Coach!

Written by Brianna Brock

McCluer South Berkeley freshman volleyball team  recently played against Jennings at Jennings high school. The freshman played to the best of their abilities, but unfortunately did not win the game, but they played hard and will work harder to  beat them next time.

The coach for the freshmen volleyball  team is  Martise Scott. This is his first year of coaching girl’s volleyball at a high school level, but he really enjoys coaching the freshmen. I asked him what are his strengths and weaknesses as a coach? He says, “My strengths are being able to evaluate each freshman regarding their knowledge and skill level as Freshman Volleyball players. My weakness is that I want every player to develop the basic skills even when the athlete doesn’t believe in themselves”.

But he does more than just coach volleyball  he also has been coaching  for 20 years. He is a very experienced coach  with different sports such as football, basketball, and track & field. So far coaching the freshman is Not bad, the only issue is getting the girls to understand that win and losses are important, but their development as student athletes is more important.

Coach Scott makes sure that all his athletes are okay and taking care of. He will push you out your comfort zone and train you to be the best.  He gives 100% to everyone, which makes him a great coach, one that you should  get to know. Sometimes he is a hard coach, but that is because he cares about the future of his student athletes, and wants them to be successful.
