MSB Varsity Volleyball celebrates their 2-0 start!

Although on August 23rd the  Varsity Volleyball team had their first game of the season against Riverview Gardens and beat them we could have done better this “not so competitive” school.  I say “not so competitive” school because we beat them every year in volleyball. I talked to Varsity player Brianna Brock about the game and this is what she had to say, “The team was not a challenge, but as a team we made too many mistakes and made them seem like they were good.” I then asked her did she look forward to playing against this team she replied that she did look forward to playing because they were their first game. Bri stated that the the hardest part of the game was when they were kind of falling apart and attitudes starting showing.  The game was a lot closer than what the Bulldogs would have liked.  The scores were 30-28 (Riverview, in the first match). Then 25-9 (MSB, in the 2nd match) and 25-22 (MSB, in the last match).  Not taking anything away from Riverview, but if MSB was able to win a set 25-9, then I’m wondering why the rest of the matches were so close?  Despite all of that Bri feels like everyone did their best to put the best effort in the game, but she says, “Ultimately, what helped us was the consistent serving from Jade, Arionna and me.”  Finally, I asked Bri what were her expectations for their next game and she simply replied, “We have to work harder.”

And they did indeed work harder as they went on to defeat Cardinal Ritter on August 24th.  The game mimicked the Riverview game in that MSB won in 3 matches, but this time the Bulldogs were able to capitalize on more kills (spike attacks, that were not returned).  When asked about her team’s 2-0 start, Mrs. Buchanan said, “We are fortunate enough to have opened up with a great start; however, we have a lot of work to do.  I’m excited about this season and I think our team can have a historical season, but we have to keep our motto at the forefront of all that we do.”  When asked what’s the team motto, Coach Buchanan said, “Faith and Hard Work…(and yes it’s the same motto of our football team).”
