Multiple Teams · Lady Bulldogs Tip-Off

By Deonta Watson-Gray

On Monday November 28, the MSB varsity girls basketball team were set to face off against Ritenour in their first game of the season/ tournament opener. After months of off-season practices and workouts, the Lady Bulldogs were hyped and excited to open up the season with a tournament game. Going into the season the girls lost a handful of Seniors that graduated, that were essential to the team. The team knew it would be hard to fill their shoes and accomplish things that those group of girls did, but they were determined. Anyiah, A Junior guard on the team said, “We just want to play our game of basketball. We want to do all we can to start the season off right with a ‘W’ and make our former teammates proud.” Shortly after tip-off the girls seemed to be in a slump. They gave up point after point in the first quarter which set the tone for the rest of the game. They came back second quarter and held Ritenour to 7 points which gave the Bulldogs a little momentum.  Brandy, one of the bulldogs most outspoken players on the team said, “We did not play with any heart throughout the game. The first quarter hurt us the worse, but as a team we should not have even gotten ourselves into that position. We are way better than that and we will come back better for the next game.” Although the bulldogs loss game one they rallied together and did just as Brandy said. They came out the next game ad won against our rival Normandy. It is clear that the Ladies have potential and will continue to get better as the season advances. With the hard work these girls put in day-by-day the results will pay off. It may be a bummer to lose the season opener that bad, but the Bulldogs can never stay down for long. They plan to grow from that experience and become as good of a team as they can. The team is young, with not one Senior on the team this year, the Lady Bulldogs have the chance to build a team this year that will consist of the same people next year. Chemistry is key to success in sports and with the girls having the opportunity to play with the same team another year gives them an advantage in the long run. With this being said the team plans to put this horrible loss in the past and continue to grow as a program to become a dominant team in class 3 girls basketball. Keep working hard, it will pay off.
